actually.. when does goku state he could beat Kid Buu? I'm reading the one part where he's talking to vegeta about switching and all he says is that he has been trying to beat buu but that he couldn't.

Why does everyone assume Goku's word is absolute fact? He's not omnipotent, he had no way of knowing if Kid Buu was actually going all out. He admitted to underestimating Cell, and I'm sure his power would've been easier to gage than Buu's. And if Goku did have a complete understanding of Buu's power, he woud've known he didn't have enough energy left (at the time) to get him with the spirit bomb. He was definately surprised when Buu started pushing it back, so who's to say Buu couldn't surprise him by raising his power while fighting? For all we know he was holding back on Goku in order to have more fun.

Same thing with when he fought Fat Buu. Most people assume ssj3 Goku could've beaten him just because he said so. But Buu never even reached into his reserves during that fight, he was just having fun. He didn't pull out any of the stuff that he used on Vegeta, because Goku didn' piss him off like Vegeta did. Personally, I think Goku only said that he could've won to give the rest of the good guys hope. If he had said "I would've lost" then everyone would think "if Goku can't beat him, there's no way we can!" and fall into despair.

Ahem. Sorry for the rant, I know I went a bit off subject there, but I've been wanting to get that off my chest for a while now. I do believe this fight could go either way, but I think the odds are somewhat better for Kid Buu.

Yeah Emperor Cold, I guess we shouldn't really take Goku's word as law. I think he had a decent idea, though. As I said, I think if Goku got a maximum power Kamehameha on Buu (remember, this is dead SSJ3 Goku, not just a max power live one,), it'd obliterate him...but if Goku missed, that's a lot of power gone, and Buu would wear him down eventually. It'd be all or nothing right from the start.

Still, if Goku was really serious about taking Buu down from the start, he has an easy way to make sure his Kamehameha connects: Instant Transmission.

And I agree with the Fat Buu thing as well.
